Groovy
Music
Recommended for ages 5-11
Groovy Music
is a series of 3 exciting software programs (Shapes, Jungle and City)
for elementary school students ages 5 to 11. Fun to use, Groovy Music
teaches the basics of sound, rhythm, pitch and composition using
pictures and animation - progressing to the study of simple notation as
well as major and minor scales.
In
Groovy Shapes (ages 5-7), children learn about basic music concepts. The
Explore section guides them aurally through a series of
progressive exercises which teach them how music works. They can then
put into practice what they’ve learned by creating their own music in
the Create section. Shapes
are used to represent elements of music such as rhythms, melodies and
chords. As your chosen character walks across the screen, the shapes
play their sounds. A library of preset sounds is included, which
children can simply drag onto the screen to build up
their musical creation. They can then play back their piece, edit it, or
even see the elements displayed as music notation. The progressive
exercises mean Groovy Shapes can be used immediately by any teacher, and
because instructions are given aurally, no reading is required
by students.
Groovy
Jungle (ages 7-9) introduces children to notes and notation, ostinato,
major and minor, and simple musical terms. More complex musical textures
are explored, and additional instruments allow them to experiment
further with their own compositions.
• Add music to a composition by
recording from a keyboard or other MIDI instrument
• View compositions in a full score display
• Create and edit text
• Jungle-themed Create mode with sounds represented
by animals & plants
Groovy
City (ages 9-11). Children learn
more about notation, and complete more complex listening tasks. They are
also introduced to question and answer phrases and the blues scale, so
that they can begin to build up more sophisticated compositions.
• Futuristic city themed Create mode
• Library of sounds includes patterns, as well as individual sounds
 |
Easily integrate
technology into your teaching – allowing control of children's
screens in a networked environment |
 |
Can be used on a
single computer, whiteboard or network |
 |
Makes time with
students fun and efficient |
 |
Uses the latest
educational standards and teaching methodologies |
 |
Students learn at
their own pace and own level |
 |
Uses an imaginative
virtual environment where students arrange shapes, characters
and images to create music! |
